Epassi research: The power of a gym subsidy
While companies recognise the value of a healthier, fitter workforce, many remain uncertain about where to make the most effective investments.
The Covid-19 pandemic underscored a crucial lesson: employees who are inactive or sedentary face a significantly higher risk of severe complications should they contract the virus.
In contrast, active employees tend to fare better, exhibiting greater resilience and overall health.
This prompts an important question: how can employers cultivate a more active workforce and ensure that investments in employee wellbeing deliver tangible, long-term benefits?
At Epassi UK, we’ve spent the past 23+ years collaborating with leading health club operators, local leisure centres, and independent gyms to provide accessible, affordable fitness solutions for employees across the UK and Ireland.
Each year, our scheme facilitates approximately 250,000 gym memberships, providing us with a valuable dataset to assess the impact of fitness incentives on workplace health.
In 2022, we observed that approximately 12.5% of our clients chose to further incentivise fitness by offering an additional gym membership subsidy of £100 or more per year.
To better understand the impact of these subsidies, we closely monitored the uptake of gym memberships among companies offering these benefits compared to those that didn’t.
In total, we tracked 600 companies, with 74 offering a subsidy.
The results? They might just surprise you.
