Presenting a case study into Oracle’s wellbeing stragey at the REBA Employee Wellness Conference 2016 Bradshaw said that when the company’s wellbeing programme was first launched it had a big focus on mental health. “That was one of our biggest cost areas so we have done stress workshops, mindfulness events etc,” she said.

Tackling such issues resulted in a $1 million saving in reported sickness absence due to mental heath issues over two years – a number big enough to prove the value of a wellness strategy. “When I took that to the board I got a round of applause,” said Bradshaw.

She said the company was working closely with its wellbeing and health providers to encourage them to better interact with each other through the introduction of its wellbeing partner forum.

Meanwhile annual roadshows, where the company encourages employees to use health scales to measure weight and BMI also provides a valuable overview of potential health issues amongst its employees – such as being overweight – that the company has been able to address through its wellnesss stragey.
