Ingeborg Van Harten, Head of HR at Mollie, on building "wow" into the whole employee lifecycle

Ingeborg Van Harten, head of HR at Mollie, describes how the company has built "wow" into every part of the employee lifecycle, creating a true end-to-end workplace experience in order to attract the best tech talent.

Fintech company Mollie has taken a new approach to attracting and retaining employees with a focus on offering kindness rather than an extensive list of expensive benefits. They call it the Wow factor.

The company, which is listed in the top ten companies to work for in Amsterdam and has an employee turnover of only 5%, has chosen to look at ways of showing employees kindness by offering free lunches, workactions, sponsoring employee's sport events, giving them their birthday off, offering stock options based on performance - rather than position in the company - and sending sick employees get well soon baskets.

Van Harten said: “Kindness will make you irresistible to employees or potential employees – rather than implementing new tech or rewards just implement more kindness.”
