Government papers: National Living Wage and National Minimum Wage

The government has submitted its evidence and analysis to the Low Pay Commission on the compliance and enforcement of national minimum wage and national living wage policy.

The evidence covers:

• estimated non-compliance and enforcement
• statistical estimates of low paid jobs
• minimum wage awareness
• routes to HMRC enforcement
• enforcement operations
• enforcement statistics.

The paper underlines the government's commitment to increasing compliance with the minimum wage through the provision of guidance and targeted communication campaigns. To help with enforcement it will increase HMRC's budget for 2017/18 to £25.3 million. This will fund new teams to proactively review complex employers.
