Mariyam Hassan of Shearman & Sterling on why it's important to focus on fertility-related health
Hassan explains that there are two main reasons for wanting to use fertility benefits. First, to assist people with their lifestyles, which can be challenging in such a busy work environment, and second to support inclusivity.
She also offers some advice to other employers looking to introduce this type of support.
“One thing is to engage with your inclusion networks as from a diversity perspective they can be incredibly helpful. They opened my mind, and gave me insights into how this is much broader – for example, same sex couples will be thinking about different options…there are also non-binary and transgender people and looking at how we can support them as well on their fertility journey. It certainly doesn’t just play into women’s health when we’re looking at this,” says Hassan.
Hassan attended REBA’s exclusive Workplace gender health: from fertility to menopause breakfast in association with AXA Health. The event welcomed reward, benefits, wellbeing and diversity, equity & inclusion specialists to discuss workplace gender health, with a particular focus on menopause and fertility.
