Video: Leo Johnson looks at the mega trends shaping the future world of work

Leo Johnson, presenter of BBC 4’s “Futureproofing” programme and head of PWC’s disruption practice, draws on the megatrends that are reshaping the world we live in. He used four scenarios to explore what the future of work might look like and how this will impact the employer/employee dynamic.

In his closing remarks at REBA's Innovation Day 2019, Johnson spoke about how emerging technology could have a positive and negative effect on the world and this would be definined by the intention of those using the technology.

He added that this was something that would be very relevant to the world of work in coming years with new technology, especially AI, that could monitor employees and even replace jobs.

"Technology is not the answer, it is the amplifier of intent and the crucial question is whether we want to use tech to solve for tech or want to use it to solve for the world’s problems.

"And when it comes to the universe you are in, it’s the intent and the purpose which will be the defining thing when it comes to enlisting, retaining and motivating the best employees.

"Purpose eats strategy for breakfast," he concluded.
